Enterprise South has 10.25 miles of trail set aside for people on foot, kept entirely separate from the 23 miles of mountain bike trail and the paved multi-use loop. On a Saturday morning that separation is the whole point: you can run here without listening for a bike.
The hiking surface is wood mulch, which is kind on legs and stays runnable when the single-track elsewhere in town has turned to soup. Poe Run Path linked with Deer Hollow makes a 4.9-mile loop with 429 feet of gain, which is a good honest hour.
The park sits on the old Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant, and the concrete bunkers scattered through the woods are left from it. Two are open to walk into, numbers 28 and 50. The rest are closed and entering them is prohibited.
Hours move with the sunset rather than sitting at a fixed time, and the trails close an hour before the park does. Closing time is posted at each kiosk and the front gate locks thirty minutes before the park shuts, so check the sign on the way in rather than trusting a number you read somewhere.
